We first saw Casa Castagna (Chestnut House) on a holiday to Italy in 2002 and fell in love with it instantly. We and our three children have come here every year since.
Emilia Romagna epitomises of everything I love about Italy; excellent food, colourful history and welcoming people. And compared to neighbouring Tuscany it is unspoilt, undiscovered and in some ways unchanged for centuries.
The house is in a small village where badgers, deer and owls visit at night and eagles circle during the day. Sometimes we have been visited by a family of wolves! And it's where the partisans hid out.
We think it's a perfect hide-away and a very special place to stay. (So does Alistair Sawday - where we're listed as one of his special places in Italy)
And as my children will tell you...there are fairies in the woods!
